01The opportunity

Give a city walk a picture to reveal.

A list of landmarks can tell you where to go without giving the visit a sense of discovery. Travel memories also tend to scatter across photos, maps and places you meant to revisit.

We connected exploration to a small visual reward: visit a real place, reveal a piece and watch a city illustration take shape. The collection gives each detour a place in a larger story, with Miso as a familiar companion.

The design question

How could visiting a city feel like building something personal, at your own pace?

01

Choose a city

Pick an illustrated puzzle that catches your curiosity.

02

Visit a real place

Use landmark context and the map to find your next stop.

03

Collect a piece

Request a foreground location check when you arrive.

04

Keep the picture

Complete the illustration, share it and return to your collection.

02From zero to one

One connected
scope of work.

We shaped the idea, created its identity, designed the experience and built the system that makes it work.

City exploration, piece by piece. The product choices, visual language and architecture developed together. Our research combined product, domain and technical exploration to shape the decisions below.

  1. 01

    Product definition

We joined physical exploration, visual collecting and a lasting keepsake in one focused loop.

  2. 02

    Content & structure

A typed catalog connects cities, puzzles and landmarks. Shared places can advance more than one puzzle.

  3. 03

    Brand identity

We developed the infinity-inspired wordmark, Miso the rabbit, illustrated city scenes and a teal, orange and navy palette.

  4. 04

    Experience design

We designed discovery, landmark details, maps, puzzle reveals, completion, city access and collection states.

  5. 05

    Native engineering

Expo and React Native connect responsive phone and tablet screens to foreground location, native maps and image sharing.

  6. 06

    Launch system

We connected account progress, one-time city unlocks, store materials and a dedicated marketing website. Android is available; the iPhone release is coming soon.

A complete brand identity

Recognizable.
Built to be used.

We gave city discovery a warm, recognizable identity. Miso, expressive city illustrations and a compact wordmark make the adventure inviting, while clear controls keep the next place easy to find.

We created a connected identity system: logo, symbols, color, typography, iconography and interface patterns, then carried it into the website and distribution materials.

Logo & wordmark
A teal and orange infinity-inspired symbol joins the rounded navy wordmark. Its connected shapes echo the ongoing discoveries in a growing collection.
Miso & illustration
A cream rabbit with a teal backpack and orange scarf gives exploring a familiar companion. Illustrated city scenes also become the pictures people reveal through visits.
Color system
Navy anchors readable text and actions. Teal marks collection progress, orange brings warmth, and ivory and mint keep the artwork in focus.
Typography
Plus Jakarta Sans connects the native interface and website, with expressive headings, clear landmark names and readable supporting context.
Icons & components
Lucide icons, rounded cards, puzzle progress, landmark rows and map filters give discovery and collection a consistent visual language.

03Product judgment

The choices
behind the experience.

What we chose, why it mattered and what it cost.

01 / Exploration & reward

Make the visit part of the picture.

Each landmark belongs to one or more illustrated puzzles. Collecting a place reveals the related pieces, while My Puzzles keeps unfinished adventures together. A completed illustration becomes a shareable keepsake.

The tradeoff

The experience needs meaningful place selection and illustrations that feel worth completing. Catalog breadth alone does not prove that people will return.

A city worth keeping

Completed Tokyo Essentials illustration and Oorbani sharing action

Completion turns the collected pieces into an illustration you can share.

Completion turns the collected pieces into an illustration you can share.
02 / Location & trust

Ask for location at the moment it helps.

Collect piece requests a fresh foreground reading and checks its accuracy and distance from the landmark. Precise coordinates remain on the device. Demo Mode supports previewing the loop while keeping simulated visits separate from real collection progress.

The tradeoff

GPS quality varies by device and surroundings. Physical field checks remain necessary; simulator captures do not validate arrival accuracy.

Landmark and collection

A place has its own context and a clear action when you arrive.

A place has its own context and a clear action when you arrive.
03 / Navigation & choice

Leave room for a little detour.

Landmark details and a map help people see what is collected and what remains. Visitors choose their own order. The first city and two included city credits introduce the collection before optional one-time city or pack purchases.

The tradeoff

Flexible discovery leaves route planning to the visitor. Account access, online maps, cloud sync and new city unlocks need a connection.

04Platforms & architecture

A native adventure. A connected collection.

Expo, React Native and TypeScript share the mobile product across iOS, Android and tablet layouts. A typed city catalog connects landmarks, puzzle pieces and progress.

Local persistence keeps collection state close to the interface. Account-scoped synchronization connects progress to a signed-in account; foreground location verification remains a device concern.

Native map and sharing integrations support finding a place and keeping its completed picture. The separate website explains the experience and introduces the puzzle through a browser preview.

01

Explore locally

The city catalog connects real places to illustrated puzzle pieces.

02

Collect intentionally

A foreground location check records a visit without background tracking.

03

Keep the collection

Account sync preserves progress; city access follows verified entitlements.

Security is product work

Useful also
means responsible.

Oorbani's privacy model starts with intentional foreground location and account-scoped progress. We do not claim an independent SOC 2 attestation. Physical GPS checks and signed-device acceptance remain separate from visual and automated verification.

SOC 2 is an independent examination of an organization’s controls against trust services criteria. Aligned controls and readiness work do not equal an auditor’s SOC 2 report, and “certified” would misstate our status. About SOC 2

Location minimization

Precise coordinates stay on the device. Visited place IDs and collection progress sync with the account.

Account boundaries

Authenticated progress and ownership policies separate each person's collection.

Purchase boundaries

Server-side store verification governs city access rather than trusting a local unlock flag.

A managed platform helps with infrastructure; AS1 still owns application access, data policies, secrets and integration decisions. A provider’s SOC 2 report does not cover our application automatically. Supabase’s shared responsibility model

05Brand, marketing & distribution

The website is
part of the product.

We brought the product promise into a dedicated website: real places, illustrated puzzles and a small companion for the adventure. The hero makes the collecting mechanic visible before asking for a download.

We connected identity, messaging, product education and acquisition. Conversion means helping the right visitor reach the next useful action, then measuring whether that action leads to value.

Search discovery

City pages connect destination-specific artwork, puzzles and landmarks to descriptive titles, canonical URLs, structured data and a sitemap. Catalog content stays aligned with the app.

Conversion design

An interactive Tokyo puzzle lets visitors try the reveal without sharing location. Product screens, included-city guidance and practical answers explain what to expect before opening Google Play.

Platforms & stores

The website links to the available Android app on Google Play. The iPhone release is labeled coming soon, with no active App Store link. Native iPhone and iPad builds and campaign materials are prepared separately.

We would measure city-page engagement, preview interaction, Google Play clicks and first real collection, then puzzle completion and additional-city demand. These are measurement goals, not reported conversion gains.

06Delivery & learning

A working product.
An open hypothesis.

We delivered the product system described here. Product-market fit has not been established.

These case studies show our ability to connect brand, product, design and engineering. The next stage is to establish adoption, paid demand and customer outcomes.

What the build taught us

One lesson worth carrying forward.

The puzzle, the map and the keepsake have to tell the same story. Clear collection states and careful location boundaries matter as much as the illustration that makes someone want to start.

The next validation

Does the product earn its place?

The next questions are first real-world collection, reliable GPS checks across locations, puzzle completion, repeat walks and demand for additional cities. Product delivery and sample progress do not establish those outcomes.

The right team for the stage

Start focused.
Grow the responsibility.

We can take a product from idea to a working release, including its brand, frontend, managed backend and integrations.

The team model should evolve with the risk and demands of the business.

Early validation

AS1 leads the build.

Before market fit is proven, scope and direction change quickly. Where appropriate, Supabase gives us a practical managed foundation. We can own application data models, authentication, backend functions and integrations while iterating on the product.

Established fit & fast growth

Add a dedicated engineering lead.

We recommend a lead responsible for data architecture, backend reliability, infrastructure and cybersecurity, working with AS1 on brand, product and design. Supabase may remain the right platform; scale calls for stronger engineering ownership, not an automatic rewrite.

Health-tech, fin-tech and other sensitive products: involve specialist engineering and security leadership from discovery. Data sensitivity, regulatory duties and operational risk can require that collaboration before market fit or rapid growth.
